In 2005 she missed part of the season because of injury but recovered in time to take on England in a two-Test Series at home. She has been nominated three times for New Zealand’s Women’s Player of the Year - in 2001, 2002 and 2004. She holds a BSc Postgraduate Diploma in Sport and Exercise Science but has grown an interest in architecture and lists her occupation as a builder.

Originally a halfback, and coached by her mother while still at school, Huriana switched to second five when she joined Auckland club side Marist.
